Wildlife

Though face some illegal acts like poaching, Serengeti national park records a wide range of wildlife animals. Among the animals in this park include jackals, spotted hyenas, and African golden wolf, honey badger, and striped hyena, seven species of mongooses, caracal, and about two species of otters. Serengeti national park is a home to other wildlife besides the carnivores and these include; ground pangolin, aardvark, African wildcat, African civet, crested porcupine, cape hare, hyraxes, striped weasel, aardwolf, common genet, zorilla and others.

Also, the park hosts some primate species like the yellow and olive baboons, patas monkeys, vervet monkeys, black and white colobus, and others.

Reptiles

Serengeti national park records several species of reptiles including the Nile crocodiles, serrated hinged terrapin, rainbow agama, Nile monitor, chameleon, African python, black mamba, black necked spitting cobra, puff adder, leopard tortoise, and many others.

Bird species

Serengeti national park records more than 500 species of birds. Among these birds include kori bustards, marabou stork, Egyptian geese, Masai ostrich, secretary birds, helmeted guinea fowls, grey breasted spur fowl, southern ground hornbill, crowned cranes, sacred ibis, cattle egrets, hamerkops, Tanzanian red billed hornbill, lovebirds, oxpeckers, red billed buffalo weaver, white stork, spotted thick knees, lesser flamingos, pink backed pelicans and many others.

Grumeti River

This river is located in the north western part of Serengeti national park and it is part of the Grumeti reserve. The river is a perfect view of the wildebeest during their migration since it’s their crossing point.

Seronera valley

This valley is also among the attractions in the park. It is positioned in the central part of Serengeti national park and it offers an excellent view of the wildlife especially the big 5. The valley is made up of savannah plains, river meanders, grassland and swamps.
